The Retina Ia was a folding camera for 35mm film made by the German Kodak AG. It was introduced in January 1951 as new version of the Retina I. It's new feature was the rapid winding lever. The cameras of the Retina I series had an optical viewfinder but no rangefinder. From January to May of 1951, the camera was fitted with a COMPUR-RAPID shutter. In June 1951, this was changed to a SYNCHRO-COMPUR shutter with M-X flash synch as shown in the image above. A Retina Ia either had a Retina-Xenar (2.8 or 3.5) or Retina-Ektar (only found with a Compur-Rapid Shutter). The one above has a Retina-Xenar 3.5 lens. A film glide roller on the back door was also added in June of 1951. The Retina Ia was replaced by the Typ 018 Retina Ib in March 1954.
