The Kodak Instamatic 500 was an attempt to start with a quality camera into the era of easy-to-load film. But the disadvantages of Kodak's film cartridge system could not be circumvented anyway. Its lens can be pushed halfway into the camera when not used. It has a hot shoe to connect a flash.
