Hippie strap

Hippie strap is the somewhat-joking term for a style of camera strap that reached its peak of its popularity in the 1970s—namely, a multicolored, woven cloth strap about 50mm or 2 inches wide.
Some may believe this was simply a stylistic flourish, paralleling the growth of outrageous sideburns and wide flare-legged pants which occurred in the same era. But it must be kept in mind that a typical Nikkormat or Mamiya/Sekor 100DTL of the era could weigh nearly 3 lbs. (1.3 kilos): and thus some extra surface area to distribute its load over the user's shoulders was greatly appreciated.
