Let's FAQ

I would love to have someone write Q&A's about how to group photos, wrap text around photos and nav boxes, how to keep elements clear from each other, etc. This can be example code shown in an answer here, or a link to a good information source. Formating

I hate to be the party pooper (especially during a good FAQ), but I wonder if this wouldn't be a lot easier to digest if it were simply written in the usual way, with titles (set off by "==  ==") and texts. The multiple titles would generate a table of contents for easy referral, the whole page could easily be read from top to bottom by anybody wishing to do so, and also links to points within it would be a lot easier. -- Zuleika 19:46, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

Sorry, I'm going to disagree there. This is intended to be the FIRST thing some total newcomer looks at. I'd rather not have 6 screenfuls of daunting minutiae staring at them. Organized as it is, the page is the table of contents. I do take the point it would be nice to cross-link between items, but it also would work to say(e.g.) "the question "how do I add images? has more information." --Vox 19:54, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

Page Titling

"page titles should be the full version of the camera name, including the brand." -getting a little bit over-prescriptive? To begin with, if you want volunteers to take part in this, they have to be able to bring some of their own style. Also, any rigid rule will lead to just as many silly results as leaving it to people's common sense: Franke and Heidecke Rolleiflex? Krasnogorski Mekhanicheskii Zavod Zorki 4? I think it might be enough to suggest editors consider whether it's appropriate to include the maker's name in the title, and suggest they check what has been done in existing pages for related models.--Dustin McAmera 16:40, 26 March 2011 (PDT)

Believe me, there are plenty of pages in the wiki that omit the maker's name. I've written some myself. That FAQ item wasn't intended to be a law, just an encouragement. What many newbies may not realize is how many camera model names are too ambiguous to use alone. A ridiculous number of companies called some model "Imperial," or "Reflex," or "Reporter." There are several items named "Helios." It just helps clarity to have the page title include the maker, and maybe use redirects from the "bare" model name if it's actually unique. --Vox 17:15, 26 March 2011 (PDT)
