The 555 ELD was introduced by Hasselblad in 1998 as the most advanced version of its 6×6 SLR series providing an integral winding motor, begun with the Hasselblad 500 EL in 1965. It was adaptable for use with a digital back as well as film, with a system of contacts to communicate data between body and back. Production of the 555 ELD ended in 2006, as Hasselblad phased out its traditional square-format bodies in favor of the digitally-oriented H-system. Unlike the earlier EL cameras it uses more common (5)AA batteries.
