Gelmar (ゲルマー) filters were distributed by Eikōdō in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Advertisements dated between June 1938 and October 1943 have been observed.[1] The Roman spelling Gelmar appears on the advertising picture, but some advertisements have the name "Gelmer", perhaps by mistake.[2] The filters were mentioned as "made in Germany" (独逸製) from 1938 to 1940, but this mention was later suppressed.

The name is written ゲルマー in katakana, this is easily confused with Germa (see Baby Germa and Semi Germa).

A Gelmer shutter is also known on the Semi Shiks and Roll Light Ref and a Gelmer lens is reported on the latter camera.
