Film Ferrania was formed in Ferrania, Italy on July 23, 2013 by co-founders filmmaker Nicola Baldini and lab technician Marco Pagni. They originally formed to produce cine film after the discontinuance of many positive films. They are based in the former research and development building LRF at Ferrania.

In October of 2014, a online crowdfunding effort was formed on Kickstarter[1]. The goal was set at $250,000 which was met 12 days later. The funding was needed in an effort to acquire, relocate and modify additional surplus film coating, chemical lab and production equipment from the various Ferrania manufacturing facilities before demolition by the the end of 2014.
