Docter Optics is an optical company in Germany. It was founded by Bernhard Docter in 1984, in Wetzlar.[1] In 1991, after the reunification of Germany, Docter bought two plants from Carl Zeiss Jena. The company made large-format lenses, some of which were sold as Tessars; this name was later changed to Doctar.[2] Bernhard Docter died in 1995, and the company failed; it was bought by a holding company owned by Rodenstock and the automotive parts companies Hella and Bosch. The firm still makes lenses for industrial cameras, as well as optical components for cars (headlamp lenses, etc.).
