The Kodak DC4800 was introduced in 2000 and was made in Japan for Kodak USA. It was marketed as a prosumer camera.

At the moment of introduction this model was regarded as a radical change in the Kodak line-up of digital cameras. The design being completely different compared to Kodak's other offerings. However, this change was considered a big improvement. The camera was much more comfortable in the hand and the controls are placed in a very ergonomic way. It has an extensive menu with lots of manual settings, such as white balance, color mode, exposure metering etc. With the DC4800 it's also possible to shoot manual or at aperture priority, albeit somewhat simplified. There are 3 standard settings for aperture priority on the main dial at f/2.8, f/5.6 and f/8. Manual choice of shutterspeeds is placed in the menu functions.

The viewfinder on this model is close to useless, especially on the wider end. It is however possible to compose on the rear screen but this will dramatically shorten the battery life.

The introduction price was around 750 USD in 2000, later to be lowered to a price point of around 500 USD. Kodak offered a nice variety in accessories like a lens attachment to use 43mm filters, a 0.6x wide angle and a 2.0x tele photo lens and macro/close-up lenses.
