China is becoming or already is the main production place for cameras in the world. The history of modern Chinese camera production began before Mao's Cultural Revolution and even survived it. After these hard times Deng Xiaoping started an economical reform policy that made China becoming the centre of the world's industry. Nowadays even old companies like Kodak handed over most of their industrial production to factories of the world's largest nation.

The former British Crown Colony Hong Kong enriched China's industry with several optical companies when the city was given back to China.
