Some authors claim to release their work into public domain. It is unclear if this has any legal meaning in terms of the US law, and it seems that it has none in terms of the laws of the European Union.[1] However this can be unterstood as a perpetual grant on the part of the author of the right to reproduce his/her document.

Because of its unclear legal status, the use of this tag is discouraged; whenever possible, please license the document under Creative Commons.
