The British Journal of Photography (BJP) claims to be the longest-running photographic periodical.[1] It was established as a monthly journal in 1854, but became a weekly in 1864, and remained weekly until 2000. It is currently published by Aptitude Media, as a monthly both in print and as an online edition.

Early editions of the BJP are dominated by text, with occasional small diagrams, and include reports of meetings of photographic societies in the UK and abroad, reports of new equipment, articles on technique, including formulae for emulsions and processing solutions, readers' correspondence and small advertisements (typically offers of equipment for sale or exchange).
